My first introduction to Talbot County came at the age of two when my family and I began a decade long tour of summer visits to 'Lee Cote,' as it was then called, to visit my grandparents' southern outpost, a 200 acre farm on Maxmore Creek between Easton and St. Michaels. For a child who knew only the brick and limestone of Manhattan, Talbot County was a land of enchantment and mystery.
I've got lots of photos of Grandaddy sitting on a tractor, however I can't say I ever saw him operate one. The farm had a barn, sheep that walked around on the lawn, a mule and a pond where I first learned to swim.
Although I haven't been in it for 45 years, I can still recall intimate details of the house on the property. At the age of six I knew it was very old...
Fast forward 30 years. My parents have retired to Talbot County. In 1991, my daughter and I moved to Easton.
And so began my journey to know the people and the land that are Talbot County. My research has been rewarded with a wealth of information that is only of value if shared. Therein lies the purpose of this site; to share what I have learned.
The inauguration of this site will only contain a portion of the data I have collected to date. With regularity, I hope, new information will be added. I will allow myself periodic commentary on how I view the state of the soul of Talbot County.
Available for review and download are documents, newspaper articles, photos, postcards. All are linked on this page.
There are some holes in the site that will be filled in. New additions will be highlighted.
